Hello followers and lovers of the fashion sustainability world, my name is Amelia and I am your newest writer over here at Moda Verde! I will be your resident desert lover, environmental nerd, and attempted fashion expert from here on out. Now, I have to set the record straight before we start and say that I will never proclaim to be the best at “trendy” fashion; in fact you will rarely find me outside of my staple overused Birkenstocks or beat down Doc Martens. However, I am absolutely obsessed with the idea of cohesiveness between the fashion industry and environmental and ethical rights.
I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in English Literature with a focus on environmental studies, which essentially means I spent my entire last two years purely focused on environmental literature. Following my graduation, I decided to take time off to travel and teach through South East Asia. I found myself leaving the beautiful desert landscape that I know and love to trade it for the high humidity and ocean views of Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia. During these travels I found myself so incredibly impressed by these third world countries and their ability to be far more sustainable than we are in the United States. In February of 2020, my trip through Asia was unfortunately cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it left me with a drive to use some of these same practices of sustainability I had seen in Asia and make a difference here at home.
So here we are today, working with Moda Verde to bring better awareness to the companies that are outshining the rest and doing the absolute most to bring harmony between the fashion world and our earth. I feel so honored and excited to work with Sophia and the format of Moda Verde to educate and excite people about the world of fashion sustainability. You will hear from me soon enough, but until then continue to keep thrifting, and shopping smart; most importantly, STAY AWAY FROM FAST FASHION.
